The new exhibition at the Lofoten Aquarium in Kabevåg which focuses on the added value of the oil industry, fisheries and fish farming, was officially opened on Thursday May 6 by Jorhill Andreassen, political advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries. The co-existence in the sea was also discussed in a seminar at the Aquarium on the opening day. (06.05.04)

The exhibition has been financed not only by the Lofoten Aquarium, the fish farming associations and fisheries, but also with contributions from the oil companies, ExxonMobil, Statoil, Hydro and ConocoPhillips.

The exhibition has been open to the public since November 5, 2003. The exhibition is a result of the cooperation between the three industries that harvest and explore the ocean; the oil and gas industry, fish farming and fish industry. The exhibition covers 200 square meters. The visitors to the exhibition are taken on a journey to the marine farm, on board the fishing boat and to the oil platform.

Information is given about the three industries, their development and contribution to Norway, their environmental challenges and efforts. The opening of this exhibition proves that oil and gas industry, fisheries and fish farming industry are facing future challenges together, by sharing knowledge and expertise and having the same objectives. Another important objective with the exhibition is to inform people in the region about activities in the ocean outside the coast of Nordland. It has been emphasized that the exhibition will be a part of the already existing one and that it will be used for educational purposes by school children.  - I don't think you will find a similar cooperation anywhere in the world, said Audun Aanes Hansen, Manager at Lofoten Aquarium.
