The Slagentangen refinery

The Esso refinery at Slagentangen south of Olso enjoys a secluded location on the Oslo Fjord. The refinery converts crude oil into fuels for sea, land and air transport, as well as heating products.

Production capacity is about 6 million metric tons of crude oil per year, which corresponds to more than half of Norway’s total consumption of petroleum products.  The refinery converts crude oil, mainly taken from the North Sea, into a large number of petroleum products, ranging from the lightest - propane and butane marketed through Progas AS – to the branded Esso products, petrol, jet fuel, kerosine, diesel oils, gas oils and heavy fuel oils. Slagen is producing sulfur-free diesel (less than 10 ppm sulfur), the fuel for the latest, green cars with catalysts. The refinery also has got a plant for blending of an environmentally friendly biocomponent into the diesel oil.
