Kalitta Air commits to using ExxonMobil aviation lubricants across its fleet

  • Kalitta Air will now use Mobil Jet™ Oil II and Mobil™ HyJet™ IV-Aplus across its entire fleet.
  • Kalitta Air is a worldwide carrier specializing in air express delivery of virtually any type of freight, with customers including DHL and Pacific Air Cargo.
  • Transitioning to ExxonMobil products will allow Kalitta Air to streamline its operations and save on costs.

SPRING, Texas ExxonMobil announced today that Kalitta Air will now use Mobil Jet™ Oil II and Mobil™ HyJet™ IV-Aplus across its entire fleet. Kalitta Air, which currently uses Mobil Jet Oil II as well as Mobilgrease™ 33 and Mobilgrease™ 28 in its Boeing 777 Freighter fleet, will commit to using Mobil Jet Oil II in its Boeing 747-400 Freighter fleet and transition both to Mobil HyJet IV-Aplus. The airline cited the ability to streamline efficiencies in their procurement and maintenance departments as a key reason for transitioning to ExxonMobil aviation lubricants.

To meet customer demands, Kalitta Air needed solutions to boost efficiencies across its operations, which included lowering maintenance fees, increasing fuel efficiency and streamlining supply chain logistics. When assessing its lubricant inventory, Kalitta Air realized that consolidating to one supplier for its lubricant demands would help the airline realize increased cost savings that could support agile line maintenance.

Kalitta Air turned to Boeing Distribution Inc. (formerly Aviall) and ExxonMobil for inventory and supply chain analyses and product recommendations that would optimize efficiencies across their operation. Boeing and ExxonMobil were able to ease the procurement process for Kalitta Air by giving them one place to acquire all of the products they need. By committing to Mobil Jet Oil II across its entire fleet of 747-400F and 777F airplanes, Kalitta Air is able to save money, increase uptime for its aircraft, and more effectively streamline its procurement and maintenance departments. In using Mobil HyJet IV-Aplus – the lowest density Type IV fire resistant hydraulic fluid commercially available – the airline can also achieve improvements in fuel efficiency.

Kalitta Air was confident in its decision to expand its use of ExxonMobil aviation lubricants based on previous experience working with ExxonMobil and Boeing to meet the airline’s needs as a worldwide carrier. Additionally, as the launch customer for the 777-300ERSF, Kalitta Air is focused on making sure that these aircraft along with the 747-400F airplanes are performing to the best of their abilities.

  • Mobil Jet™ Oil II is a high-performance, synthetic aircraft-type gas turbine lubricant formulated for reliable performance. With close to six decades of flight experience, it has accrued over 5 billion hours of on-wing performance.
  • Mobil™ HyJet™ IV-Aplus is a fire-resistant Type IV phosphate ester aviation hydraulic fluid that offers performance capabilities at levels close to those of Type V fluids. This hydraulic fluid is the lowest density Type IV fluid commercially available—a key driver in Kalitta Air’s decision to convert to this hydraulic fluid. With heavy loads and worldwide operations, lower density hydraulic fluids could support their objectives for increasing fuel efficiency.

“Our goal is to be able to have an efficient operation with reliable aircraft performance, and we see working with ExxonMobil and Boeing on many of the components to help make that happen,” said Tim Kissel, Director of Maintenance at Kalitta Air. “Ultimately, we want to make sure that our aircraft are performing to the absolute highest level so we can continue providing best-in-class air cargo transportation service around the world.”

“ExxonMobil is committed to providing lubrication solutions that address our customers’ evolving needs,” said Osman Durrani, ExxonMobil Global Aviation Sales Director. “We are excited to continue our strong relationship with Kalitta Air and Boeing to help maintain efficiencies in their operations and deliver reliable aircraft performance.”

With a history that extends beyond aviation, ExxonMobil is also the official Mobil 1™ lubricant supplier for Kalitta Motorsports, a seven-time National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) world championship-winning team. Building on this relationship, ExxonMobil is thrilled to continue supporting the company’s success – in the air and on the track – as Kalitta Air’s aviation lubricants supplier.
