Kalitta Air boosts efficiencies with conversion to ExxonMobil product line.

With the guidance from ExxonMobil and long-term partner Boeing, the carrier was able to create commonalities across its fleets, which helped streamline operations.

Kalitta Air’s mission

Kalitta Air offers scheduled or on-demand charter service for cargo customers in the United States and around the world. Their fleet includes B747 400 freighters and 777 freighters with additional growth anticipated.

With cargo operations, Kalitta Air has to navigate complex and busy schedules. In that challenging environment, one of Kalitta’s key challenges is finding ground time for aircraft maintenance. Trying to plan maintenance downtime is tough, so it was imperative for maintenance to be as efficient as possible. In addition to overall efficiency, Kalitta sought increased component reliability.

Standardizing processes

When Boeing, a long-term partner of Kalitta Air, noticed that Kalitta was using different jet oils for its different fleet types, they saw an opportunity for commonality across its fleets with ease. Knowing that Mobil Jet™ oils are the same type and class as the previous oil Kalitta used, Boeing was able to show Kalitta how they could convert their oil using a simple top-off method, reducing the need for extended maintenance downtime around the conversion.

In addition, Kalitta converted its hydraulic fluid to Mobil™ HyJet™ IV-A plus, also using a top-off method at the same time. Through increased reliability, crew efficiencies and the ease of conversion, expanding the use of ExxonMobil solutions was a great fit for Kalitta’s operations.

A smooth transition

Training from ExxonMobil experts provided Kalitta with hands-on assistance to easily make the conversions of their hydraulic fluid and jet oil across their fleet. Additionally, ExxonMobil’s global distribution network gives the carrier peace of mind that product and solutions will be available to them when and where they need it.

“The ease of using one type of oil helps diminish the human factor error and makes maintenance easier for our operations.” Kevin Jackson, Maintenance Fleet Manager at Kalitta Air.

Through increased reliability, crew efficiencies and the ease of conversion, expanding the use of ExxonMobil solutions was a great fit for Kalitta’s operations.
